A CLUB FOR OWNERS OF AND THOSE INTERESTED IN THE WEIMARANER DOG Affiliated with the Weimaraner Club of America, Weimaraner Club of Northern Illinois events are licensed by The American Kennel Club. Members agree to adhere to the Code of Ethics of the WCA. A wide variety of events are sponsored during the year to appeal to the interests of most Weimaraner owners. In addition to those people entered in competition, these events offer an opportunity for Weimaraner owners to meet each other, share their interest in the breed and also to assist in making the events possible. A spring AKC Field Trial is held at the Des Plaines Wildlife Area near Joliet, Illinois, offering the opportunity for points toward a Field Championship and spring and fall AKC Hunting Tests offer Junior, Senior and Master Hunter level tests. In the spring and the fall Ratings Tests are offered in affiliation with the Weimaraner Club of America with the opportunity to earn Novice Shooting Dog, Shooting Dog, Shooting Dog Excellent, Novice Retrieving Dog, Retrieving Dog and Retrieving Dog Excellent titles. These all provide an opportunity for the dog and owner to work together in events which are natural and enjoyable to the dog and which help the dog qualify for the WCA Versatile and Versatile Excellent titles. In July, a Weimaraner Sweepstakes, Specialty and Obedience Trial is offered for those interested in earning points toward an AKC Bench (conformation) Championship and Obedience titles. Many members work on their own or with their local obedience clubs toward earning the AKC Tracking Dog, Tracking Dog Excellent and Variable Surface Tracker titles. The club sponsors one, sometimes two, AKC Tracking Tests annually and often hosts the WCA National Tracking Test. Many members are active in agility competition. WCNI supports the AKC Canine Good Citizen program and offers occasional opportunities for members to earn that title. The club presents awards to those members who have earned titles with their Weimaraners during the previous year. These are presented at the annual awards dinner or picnic. WCNI members include people who work with their dogs in the various areas listed above and also those who simply enjoy their Weimaraner as their family pet. A monthly newsletter is mailed, with news of upcoming events, club business and articles of health and general interest to the breed fancier. In addition to those in Illinois, WCNI has members in Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan. Meetings are usually held at the events listed above. Since members are spread throughout a very large area, the various locations of the meetings give more members the opportunity to participate.
